House Hopping

With spring comes longer days and warmer weather. Now is the perfect time for your family to take a leisurely Sunday drive.

For one Mobile County, Ala., family out on a Sunday drive, they struck house gold. As the mother told her children for many years, the family drove passed their favorite house and began their long ride on the waiting game train.

The house was yellow with white trim; a two storied creole cottage with a wraparound porch; a cottage the family had been watching for the last ten years.

But there was something different about the house on this day. There appeared to be a realty sign in the front yard. With sudden realization, the mother realized the family dream house has just hit the selling market and frantically began searching her purse for an ink pen.

Writing all the pertinent information on an old pharmacy receipt, the family skipped ice-cream and headed straight home. The call to the realtor later in the day would lead the family down a buyer’s path to owning their dream home—the same one they had driven by and watched for the last ten years, waiting and hoping that one day a for sale sign would hang in the front yard.

Surprisingly, 40 percent of all houses sold in the spring arise through situations similar to this family. Most potential buyers find their family homes while out on leisurely Sunday drives. The exact psychology has not been studied, but many realtors attribute the weather or longer daylight hours cheers the buyer.
